As part of our Head Start to Literacy Initiative, the Orlando Alphas and the Hankins Johnson Education Foundation kicked off Orange County Head Start’s Guest Reader Month. In addition to volunteering as guest readers we donated 500 books, 78 sets of flashcards and countless supplies for Lila Mitchell Center’s new Lending Library.
Testimonials
The YMOD program was like a world-class boot camp that jumpstarted my professional, academic, and personal success. I enjoyed participating in the range of modules and workshops related to professional development, personal finance, leadership, and social etiquette. I particularly enjoyed growing, evolving, and learning from my cohort of YMOD participants from different schools throughout the city. This is where I first learned the concept of iron sharpening iron.

I learned the importance of making service and sacrifice a lifestyle. Not only did the leaders of the YMOD expose us to fantastic speakers, presenters, and facilitators, but they also made sure that we regularly participated in community service activities. I learned that regardless of how busy we become in life, it is imperative that we make an effort to give back to the community through our time, talents, and service.

The financial support provided by the Hankins Johnson Education Foundation helped me to focus on my classes and not have to worry about funding my first year. Supporting scholarship funds and programs like the MLK Commemorative Luncheon is very important for students who have worked hard but lack the financial resources needed to complete their college education.
~Roggernsy Jacotin, University of Florida and Recipient of the 2021 Drum Major Scholarship
Hello, I just wanted to thank you and all the Alphas for granting me the $2,000 scholarship. I appreciate the investment in my future and the belief that one day I can contribute something great to this world. Again, thank you so much I am grateful.”
~Caleb Nunn, 2022 MLK Scholarship Recipient
The gratitude we feel goes beyond words & the English vocabulary does not have a word that fully expresses the appreciation felt for your sacrifice, leadership, guidance, thoughtfulness, and encouragement you directly provided these young men. Thank you for your patience & kindness.
~Cassie, Exantus, YMOD Parent
You are a living example of what we strive to teach our sons and we pray that they will not depart from what’s rightfully instilled (Holy Bible Proverbs 22:6). What we teach them at home and what you’ve reinforced will always be there. Good seed has been planted as a point of reference for days, years to come.
~Cassie, Exantus, YMOD Parent
For me, the best way to show appreciation is to continue to encourage my son to be the best version of himself, at minimum obtain a college degree, & never be too busy to give back to upcoming generations.
